Let's take it Back to the Basics...!

We know you've heard it before and it's a boring song , but perfume is more than just a finishing touch — it is a silent communicator and a memory in a bottle. Whether you're new to fragrances or a seasoned collector, understanding the fundamentals of perfume use can elevate your experience and ensure you're getting the most out of every spritz !

In this post, we’ll cover the basic perfume rules, including how to apply it properly, how to make it last longer, and what not to do.

1. APPLY ON HYDRATED SKIN

Fragrance lasts longer on hydrated skin ! After your shower, when your pores are open and your skin is slightly damp, apply a scent to clean, moisturised skin. Pro tip: Use an unscented lotion or one that matches your perfume to create a layering effect and lock in the scent.

2. APPLY ON PULSE POINTS

Your pulse points are areas where your blood vessels are closest to the skin. These spots emit heat, which helps to diffuse and amplify your fragrance throughout the day. For longer wear, focus application on your

  • Wrists

  • Neck

  • Behind the ears

  • Inner elbows

  • Back of the knees

Just a light spray on 2–3 of these areas is more than enough.

3. DON'T RUB YOUR WRISTS

This is a classic mistake! Rubbing your wrists after applying perfume breaks down the top notes — the lightest and most delicate part of a fragrance. This can dull the scent and change how it was meant to smell. Instead: Spray and let it air dry naturally for a better dry down.

4. AVOID OVER APPLYING

You want to wear the perfume — not let it wear you. A couple of spritzes go a long way, especially with extrait de parfum formulas like blubo's. If you can smell it strongly on yourself for more than 15–20 minutes, chances are you’ve applied too much. Avoid over applying as overpowering a room with your scent is not as attractive as you think, its headache inducing ! Remember when you wear a perfume everyday you're most likely to not smell it on yourself, it doest mean you should spray more.

5. YOUR SKIN CHEMISTRY AFFECTS THE SCENT

Perfumes smell different on everyone based on:

  • pH levels

  • Skin type (oily skin holds scent longer than dry skin)

  • Diet and lifestyle

  • Hormones

So , what works for someone else might not work for you — always test it on your own skin. This is why starting with a discovery set before investing in a full size bottle is never a bad idea.

Fragrance is personal, powerful, and meant to enhance your life — not overwhelm it. By following these rules, you’ll not only smell amazing, but you’ll also make your scent last longer, project better and feel more confident.
